A means to an end Sep 06, 2010 I've used MS Office for work and at home since the days of Office 98.
Because of that, and almost a full decade using Office 2000 Pro, I was comfortable with its idiosyncrasies, had my own macros set in place, and could overcome any negative criticism. I knew how to make it do what I wanted it to do and it did all of that.
The only addition I had was OneNote 2007, but eventually I considered a fuller upgrade because I felt that the software suite had progressed sufficiently to justify the expense.
But Office 2010 was in the wings. I'd tried the beta version and felt it was not beyond my intuitive skills to adapt. But when I found that having Office 2007 would allow me a free upgrade to include all the software I wanted (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote) I decided to cut the cost and get this upgrade as a means to an end.
So, my review is only based upon about a month's use in total. Having said that, there seem to be more differences between Office 2000 and Office 2007 than there are between Office 2000 and 2010.
Office 2007 has a few very different features from earlier versions, and I found some of the menus and the ribbon a challenge to get used to. I am sure, however, that in time I could adapt. But with Office 2010 now installed to replace 2007, I have found that time has been drastically reduced. Office 2010 isn't a step back, but a big step forward.
Two years ago, I would have written this very differently. But this is 2010.
All in all, Office 2007 is fine, although the integration between different parts of the suite falls short. The Small Business Edition lacks Access, but that's always been the case.
But Office 2007 SBE is probably the most economical way to get a legitimate free upgrade to Office 2010 Professional - while it lasts.
If that's what you have to do, it's a means to an end.
There is nothing intrinsically bad about Office 2007 SBE, but if you don't have the free upgrade option, go straight to Office 2010 if you can afford it.

Hurry before Tech upgrade offer ends on 09/30 Aug 28, 2010 By purchasing this product & installing & activating before 09/30/2010, you qualify to upgrade for free to Office PROFESSIONAL 2010. That's because Office Home & Business 2010 does not have Publisher. So you can get the newest four hundred & some dollar version (there is no upgrade version of Office 2010) for only a little over two hundred. If you want to get the DVD you just pay the fourteen bucks for that (download is free). Technology guarantee info at: [...]

Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 a Winner! Jun 01, 2010 I have installed this newest version on both a computer with Windows XP and one with Windows 7 - in both cases, I had no difficulties or glitches of any kind. The one I purchased through Amazon was installed on the system with Windows XP.
While just a bit disorienting at first (aren't all new things like that?!), I found with just a bit of perseverence, I was easily able to adapt to the new ribbon layout. I'm astounded at the variety of styles, library items, templates, colors, etc., offered in this new version of Word and Publisher. I've been going through tutorials to learn PowerPoint, too, and it seems to be equally filled with all manner of backgrounds, templates, etc., to give those of us who are "creatively challenged" a big jumpstart!
I highly recommend this latest version of Office, but be prepared to be in front of your computer for a while...with so many choices for creatively styling slides, letters, posters, etc., it is difficult to pull yourself away! Such are the perks to this fun and application-packed software.

Waste of Money May 09, 2010 Very disappointed in the sport that was provided to this product by the folks a Microsoft. This was promoted as the savior to my business contact needs -- yet it wouldn't even sync with my Blackberry unless I used a third party. For the price, I'd go find another content management system. There are lots of free ones out there that while they have their own limitations - are much better than this product.
MICROSOFT SMALL OFFICE Mar 16, 2010 This version of Office is great. I am recently self employed and it is a life saver, helping me organize and keep tract of vital information for my business.
