Virus Barrier Is Just About Perfect Feb 24, 2006
By Janet E. Obrien I use Virus Barrier and I'd have to say that it is just about perfect. It dosn't slow down my computer, or cause problems for my computer, like some other anti-virus software that I've tried. It's really easy to use, and I really like the user interface (it is glassy, sort of like OS X). I regularly receive automatic updates via the software update feature in Virus Barrier. In fact, Virus Barrier was updated to protect me from the Leap-A Trojan Horse before it was even in the news!
Highly recommended.

A Breath of Freshly-Sanitized Air Sep 19, 2006
By Greg Robertson In the interest of full-disclosure, yes, I previously owned and used Norton Anti-Virus on my Mac. Eventually, though, I got so irritated with it that I dumped all things Norton off of my system. Since installing Virus Barrier, however, I've still had no viruses get me, but also don't have the ridiculous intrusiveness and clunkiness of Norton Anti-Virus. Ahhh...that IS refreshing.
OK, so Virus Barrier doesn't literally clean the air, too, but I do find it to be THE perfect virus-killer for my Mac. Why? Well, it's thorough and gracefully executed, much like true AppleĀ® software is, yet it doesn't keep interrupting my work to ask the same questions over and over again, as Norton does. It simply does it's job, which is all I ask.
Another very different feature that I love about Virus Barrier is that, in addition to the full scans, if I have one or two specific files that I want Virus Barrier to examine and/or repair, I can just drag them to its icon and it immediately goes to work. Norton Anti-Virus, on the other hand, is so needlessly complicated that I never could get it to do that, if it's even possible.
Also worth noting is that Virus Barrier works MUCH FASTER than Norton Anti-Virus. I don't know why or how, and I don't care -- I'm just glad it does.
And last, I love the spaceship-like user interface. The only thing better than software that does its job efficiently and effectively is software that does all that while making me feel like I'm on-board the Enterprise.
All in all, I am VERY happy with Intego Virus Barrier, and highly recommend it.

Intego Virusbarrier : buyer beware May 09, 2007

Re: Intego VirusBarrier X4
Since purchasing Intego Virusbarrier x4 10.4 for Mac OS X less than a month ago, I stopped using the product. Initially, I was very impressed with iVirusBarrier X4's ease, speed, and non-obstrusiveness (conpared to Norton's freakesh over-control).
Nevertheless, after purchasing & loading VirusBarrier X4, I always had problems verifying disk permissions. Eventually, I had to archive and reninstall all my software, because of overall poor system performance, missing links, ad-nauseam. I recently learned that virusbarrier was indeed the culprit that ultimately lead to the tedious reinstall process.
Sarah at Intego Support responded: "basically the Disk Utility is resetting the permissions to the incorrect (vulnerable) state. At this time, and until Apple addresses this security issue, you should not run repair permissions on restart."
WRONG ANSWER: But thanks for blaming Apple for Intego's interface problem.
Meanwhile, since having to reinstall all software again, I skipped over virusbarrier, and I have been in "disk permission" heaven ever since. FYI: there are no refunds. Just throwaways!
Caveat Emptor!!!!!

Quick and Stealthy Jan 12, 2007
By D. Pritchard It used to take me six plus hours to run Norton's on my Mac, running 10.4.8.
Running VirusBarrier, it is done in under an hour. There is no stopping everything
to download definitions and then restarting; it totally works in the background.
It is easy to set up and use.
